Local Travel Idea - Andrew Haydon Park

8/29/2015

In between Bayshore and Crystal Beach areas along Carling Ave. is the beautiful Andrew Haydon Park.  The park is an ideal location for picnicking and/or taking in the wide open Ottawa River views.  The Ottawa River widens to over 2km at this point and offers spectacular views extending toward Aylmer to the west and Britannia Bay to the east.

The adjacent picture was taken while on a dog walk along the Dick Bell portion of the area.  From the connecting pathways, you can walk out to the point that shelters the Nepean Sailing Club and take in the best views the park has to offer.

There is plenty of parking off Carling and bathrooms on site, making for an extended afternoon stay (as example) very enjoyable.

If your more adventurous, the trans-Canada trail (linking downtown through to Carleton Place) intersects Andrew Haydon Park and makes biking to and from very easy across the Ottawa area.
